GelatoConnect Logistics - Onboarding Guide

Written by Roman Aldunate

GelatoConnect Logistics (GCL) is Gelato’s shipping platform that enables partners to generate shipping labels, connect carriers, and track shipments directly from GelatoConnect.

GCL can be used in two ways:

  1. Path 1: As part of the GelatoConnect workflow, where shipping is automatically handled as orders move through production.

  2. Path 2: As a standalone shipping API, allowing you to create and ship any package through Gelato’s carrier network or your own carrier accounts.

In both cases, GCL acts as the logistics layer between your production system and shipping carriers, enabling you to:

  • Generate shipping labels

  • Use Gelato or your own carrier accounts

  • Automatically attach tracking numbers to orders

  • Monitor shipment status and delivery progress

Before starting onboarding, choose the integration path that best fits your workflow.

Path 1 - GelatoConnect Workflow Shipping

If you are already using GelatoConnect Workflow (GCW), shipping is handled automatically through GelatoConnect Logistics (GCL) once your shipping configuration is complete.

In this setup, labels and tracking are generated automatically when workflow orders are processed.

Typical workflow:

Order → Workflow Processing → Package Ready → Label Generated → Shipment Tracked

To enable this flow, you must first configure your shipping methods.

Step 1 — Configure Shipping Methods

During onboarding, your onboarding manager will work with you to configure:

  • the carriers you want to use

  • the shipping methods available to your customers

  • any custom shipping configurations

This includes:

  • Gelato carrier accounts

  • your own or your customer carrier accounts

  • external label integrations

  • client pickup methods

Once configured, GCW orders automatically receive the correct shipping method and label when the order is ingested.

Step 2 — Automatic Label Creation

Once production is complete:

  1. the package is already registered

  2. GCL has already attributed the correct shipping label which will be printed

  3. tracking is attached to the order

Shipping happens automatically as part of the workflow.

Path 2 — Standalone Shipping API

If you choose to use GCL as a shipping API, onboarding involves three steps.

Step 1 — Create Shipping Orders

Send shipping orders to the GelatoConnect Logistics API.

Each order includes:

  • recipient address

  • package weight

  • package dimensions

  • order reference

  • optional shipping method

Once created, the shipment becomes available for label generation.

Step 2 — Configure Carriers

Choose which carriers you want to use.

You can either:

Use Gelato carrier accounts

or

Connect your own carrier accounts

Carrier configuration determines how labels are generated.

Step 3 — Generate Labels

Labels can be generated in three ways:

  • API label generation

  • bulk label generation

  • manual label creation

Once a label is created:

  • a tracking number is generated

  • the shipment is registered with the carrier

  • the package is ready to dispatch
