This article explains how to add a new product category in the AI Estimator so that it can provide estimates for that category. We’ll walk step-by-step through the configuration, using Posters as an example.
Video Walkthrough for Adding a New Product Category
Step-by-step configuration:
1. Add the New Category
Go to the Categories tab and create a new entry, e.g., Posters.
Fill in all the required columns.
Note: The list of categories you see in the Estimator’s dropdown comes from this configuration sheet.
2. Define the Product Setup
Add the new category in the Product tab (or create a new dedicated tab, if you have a separted tab for each category).
Define the production steps. Example for Posters:
Print
Cut (guillotine)
Laminate
3. Configure Paper Sizes
Go to the Paper Sizes tab. Define which sizes are allowed for the new category.
Options:
Custom Size → any size can be ordered.
Predefined Sizes → add typical/standard sizes for convenience.
In our Posters example, we’ll allow Custom Size only.
4. Set Page Numbers
In the Page Numbers tab, define restrictions if needed.
For Posters, there’s no restriction on page count.
5. Configure Page Colors
Go to the Page Colors tab. Define which print options are allowed.
Example for Posters were it is expected to print only on 1 side:
Full color (single side)
Black only (single side)
6. Define Dependencies
In the Dependencies tab, set which paper types are valid for the new category (e.g., Gloss and Uncoated).
7. Add Packaging Options
Open the Packaging tab. Configure packaging types for the new category.
8. Add Step Add-Ons
Go to the Step Add-Ons tab. Add the new category if you want to allow optional extras.
Example: enable Polybagging for Posters.
9. Sync in Estimate Configuration
Return to the Estimate Configuration section.
Sync your updates so the AI Estimator recognizes the new category.
Now, when you open the dropdown, Posters will appear as an option with the parameters and add-ons you defined.
That’s it! You’ve successfully created a new product category for your AI Estimator.
