[Getting Started - GCW] Understanding the Packaging and Print Operator role

Written by Kyle Sawyer

Manage user access and permissions based on their roles and responsibilities.

  • User Management: The main screen displays a list of users with their details such as ID, First Name, Last Name, Email, Phone, Created date, Updated date, Contact person, and Status. The status column indicates whether a user is Active, Blocked or Archived. Users can be searched by email and filtered by status (All, Created, Active, Blocked, Archived).

  • Adding Users: Clicking the "Add user" button opens a form to create a new user account. The form fields include First Name, Last Name, Email (required), Phone (optional), Details (optional), and Language (defaulted to English).

The "Status" and "Access levels" sections on the user creation form allow setting the user's initial status and assigning access permissions. The available access levels are:

  • Accountant

  • Manager

  • Packaging user

  • Print operator

These access levels likely correspond to different roles and permissions within the printing workflow.

  • User Actions: The main user list view also includes action buttons to directly Activate or Block individual users.

Understanding the Packaging User Role

The packaging and print operator role is designed for operators who need access only to packaging-related tasks. If you are assigned this role, your permissions are limited to functions directly tied to packaging workflows. This ensures that sensitive configuration, product, and logistics settings remain restricted to higher-level roles such as Manager or Admin.

What You Can Access as a Packaging User

When logged in with the Packaging role, you can:

  • Perform packaging-related tasks assigned within your workflow.

  • Use the tools necessary to complete day-to-day packaging operations.

What You Cannot Access

Packaging users no longer have access to administrative or configuration features. These restrictions are in place to prevent accidental changes to core system settings.

The following areas are now hidden from view and cannot be edited:

  1. Logistics (Shipping & Costs)

  • Shipping settings: No visibility or editing rights.

  • Saved packages: No visibility or editing rights.

  • Address book: No visibility or editing rights.

  • Notifications: Tab not visible.

  • Carrier accounts: Tab not visible.

  • Customer shipping markups: Tab not visible.

  • Rate cards: Tab not visible.

2. Workflow (Production & Dispatch)

  • Print plates: No visibility.

  • Shelf allocation: No visibility or editing rights.

  • Next upload: Tab not visible.

  • Product models: No visibility or editing rights.

  • Product UIDs: No visibility or editing rights.

3. Manager and Configuration

  • Manager tab: Not visible.

  • Configuration tab: Not visible. This includes workflows, impositions, and work settings.

4. Jobs and Estimation

  • Manage Estimates: Not visible.

  • Estimate Configuration: Not visible.

5. Inventory Management

  • Inventory tab: Tab visible but no editing rights.

Why Permissions Are Limited

The Packaging role is intended for use by packaging operators only. Limiting access helps:

  • Protect sensitive shipping, product, and cost settings.

  • Ensure compliance with operational and security standards.

  • Provide clarity across different roles within the system.
