If you fulfil orders for a Volume Owner (for example, Hyble), you can pull their products directly into your GelatoConnect catalogue as your own custom products rather than configuring each one manually. This guide walks you through that flow. GelatoConnect will automatically create the customer product model, customer products, production variants, and copies of pre-configured workflows and impositions for the products you select.
Benefits
Streamlined onboarding: Bring a Volume Owner's catalogue into your account in minutes rather than configuring each product manually.
Reuse of existing assets: Workflows, impositions, and product models already in your account can be reused, keeping your catalogue clean.
Accurate substrate mapping: Volume Owner substrates are mapped to your own paper types up front, reducing production errors.
Faster go-live: Variants and product UIDs are generated automatically and become available within seconds.
Before you start
Know which Volume Owner you want to add products from, and which of your customers the products should be enabled for. If that customer doesn't yet exist in your account, you can add them during the flow.
Have any existing workflows, impositions, or product models you'd like to reuse to hand. You can either reuse them or create new ones as you go.
Step 1: Open the Product Models page
From the left-hand menu in GelatoConnect, navigate to the Product Models page.
Step 2: Start a new product model from a customer
Click Create new product model in the top right.
Select Add from customer. You will see the list of Volume Owners whose product catalogues are available to you.
Step 3: Select the Volume Owner
Choose the Volume Owner you want to add products from (for example, Hyble).
Click Continue. GelatoConnect will display all the products configured for that Volume Owner.
Step 4: Find and select the product
Search for the product you want to add using the search bar (for example, a 3TT variant or a banner).
Click on the product to select it.
Step 5: Assign the customer
Select which of your customers this product should be enabled for. This will typically be the Volume Owner itself (e.g. Hyble).
If the customer does not yet exist in your account, you can add them from this screen.
Click Continue.
Step 6: Choose or create the product model UID
GelatoConnect will check whether a matching product model already exists in your account:
If you already have one (for example, an existing banner product model), select “Use existing”.
If not, click “Create new” and GelatoConnect will create the product model for you.
Step 7: Select workflow and imposition
Choose a workflow and imposition. Some defaults are already available, and you can also reuse your own or create new ones tailored to the product.
Click Continue.
Step 8: Confirm the paper / substrate mapping
Review the substrate mapping between the Volume Owner's naming and your own. For example, Hyble's ICE_N may map to 350 GSM Coated Silk in Gelato.
If the mapping is correct, click Continue. If you need a different mapping, you can create it here before continuing.
Step 9: Let GelatoConnect build the product
GelatoConnect will now automatically create:
The customer product model
The customer products
The production variants
Copies of the workflows
If a product model, variant, or workflow already exists in your account, GelatoConnect will skip recreating it.
Once the process is complete, click Continue and then Close. The product is now live.
Step 10: Verify the products are live
To confirm everything was created correctly:
Go to Product Models and check that the new product model appears (for example, BAN 160).
Open Customer Products to see the new entry.
Open the Variants tab on the product. The variants available on the Volume Owner side will appear here.
Product UIDs take a few seconds to generate. If the variants don't appear immediately, refresh the page after a short wait.
Tips
Reuse existing product models, workflows, and impositions wherever possible to avoid duplication.
Double-check the substrate mapping at Step 8. Incorrect mappings are the most common cause of production issues later.
This flow can be repeated for any Volume Owner whose products you fulfill and integrated with GelatoConnect.
