[Workflow Builder - GCW] How to Reorder Production Paths Using Drag & Drop

Written by Roman Aldunate

This article discusses the new Drag & Drop Production Path Reordering feature in GelatoConnect, which simplifies the process of managing multiple production paths in your workflow. This enhancement allows users to easily adjust the priority of production paths without the need for time-consuming deletions and recreations.

Understanding Production Paths

A production path represents the complete route a job can take through your workflow, typically including steps such as sheet selection, imposition, machine selection, batching, and finishing.

When multiple machines or press configurations are involved, you will encounter several paths:

  • Path A

  • Path B

  • Path C
    … and so on.

GelatoConnect selects the first valid path as the primary route, while the others serve as fallback or alternative routes.

Importance of Reordering

Consider a scenario with three presses:

  1. Machine 1

  2. Machine 2

  3. Machine 3

If Machine 1 breaks down or you need to change priorities, the current process requires:

  • Deleting production path A

  • Recreating production path A as a new path

  • Manually reconstructing the order

This method is slow and prone to configuration errors. The new feature eliminates these issues.

Introducing Drag-and-Drop Reordering

You can now rearrange production paths instantly:

Simply click, drag, and drop a path into a new position.

For example:

  • Move Path C to the top to make it the highest priority

  • Move Path B above Path A

  • Reorder all existing production paths without deleting anything

The workflow will immediately respect the new priority order.

Steps to Reorder Production Paths

  1. Go to the Workflow Configuration for your product.

  2. Scroll to the Production Paths section.

  3. Hover over any production path row — you will see the drag handle.

  4. Click and hold the drag handle.

  5. Move the path up or down in the list.

  6. Release to drop it in its new position.

The system updates the priority automatically.

Example

  • The workflow has three production paths.

  • Path C needs to become the new second priority.

  • Instead of recreating it, the user simply drags Path C into the middle position.

  • The new order takes effect immediately.

Benefits

  • No more deleting and recreating paths

  • Priority adjustment takes seconds

  • Fewer configuration errors

  • Fully visual and intuitive
