Impressions Expo has always been a pulse check on the decorated apparel industry. This year, that pulse was clear: the industry is changing fast, but the systems running it haven't caught up yet.
Over three days in Long Beach, we spoke with hundreds of apparel producers (screen printers, DTG and DTF operators, embroidery shops, and hybrid facilities). Many were in the middle of digital transformation. Others were just starting. Almost all were asking the same question in different ways:
How do we scale short-run, on-demand production without adding complexity?
That question is exactly why we brought GelatoConnect Apparel to Impressions Expo, and why this event mattered so much.
The industry is moving faster than its workflows
The decorated apparel market is in a transitional phase.
Screen printing remains foundational, but DTG and DTF have dramatically lowered the barrier to entry. Embroidery continues to be a high-margin, high-demand capability. As a result, production environments are becoming more complex, not less.
What we heard repeatedly:
- One-off and short-run orders are now the norm
- Orders come from multiple storefronts and merchants
- Manual job tickets and spreadsheets don't scale
- Inventory decisions tie up cash and time
- Software tools are fragmented and often built for yesterday's workflows
Many shops are doing impressive work with great machines, but running them with systems that weren't designed for digital-first production.
Why GelatoConnect Apparel resonated on the show floor
At Impressions, the most meaningful conversations didn't start with features. They started with workflows.
When we talked about end-to-end production orchestration (from order intake to production, procurement, and fulfillment), people leaned in. When we showed how automated procurement reduces manual work and inventory risk, heads nodded. When we discussed connecting multiple storefronts into one system, operators started mapping their own setups out loud.
The shift was clear: from "What does this tool do?" to "This could simplify how we actually run our business."
That's the role GelatoConnect Apparel plays: not another point solution, but the operating system for digital apparel production.

Customers on the floor changed the conversation
One of the most powerful parts of our presence at Impressions Expo wasn't a demo or a slide. It was our customers.
For all three days, we were joined by:
-
JC Urena, Owner, Imperial Custom Apparel (US)
-
Charlie Saunders, CEO, TidyMerch (Sweden)
They didn't just stop by. They stayed. They jumped into conversations. They spoke directly with visitors about real production challenges, real trade-offs, and real outcomes.
The impact was immediate:
-
Visitors stayed longer at the booth
-
Questions became more specific and practical
-
Objections shifted from "does this work?" to "how would this work for us?"
Hearing from operators who live these challenges every day brought a level of credibility no vendor pitch can match. It reinforced something we strongly believe in: the best validation in this industry comes from peers, not promises.
What this event confirmed for us: from unscalable to routine in five months
Impressions Expo reinforced several important truths:
- The need for better production software in apparel is real and urgent
- Most operators are earlier in their digital journey than they realize
- Complexity, not lack of demand, is the biggest growth blocker
- Customer advocacy is a force multiplier for trust and adoption
- The industry doesn't need more tools, it needs better orchestration
GelatoConnect Apparel sits directly at that intersection.
What's next
For many of the people we met, Impressions Expo was a first introduction to GelatoConnect Apparel. That's okay. This is an education-led market, and trust takes time.
If you stopped by our booth, spoke with JC or Charlie, or left the show thinking "there has to be a better way to run this", we'd love to continue the conversation.
Whether you're scaling digital apparel production, moving beyond spreadsheets and point tools, trying to protect margins while growing, or simply looking for clarity in a complex setup, GelatoConnect Apparel is built for where the industry is going next.
